 "Hand held blender" 2010-03-09
By Rodney Harrington (rural Missouri)
This product from Amazon is as it was said to be and more. I have used it many times since I received it. It is powerful, has multiple speeds and is easy to use and clean. I'm pleased with it. The measuring and covered container that came with it is something I would not have known to buy but is very handy.

"Great addition to my kitchen" 2010-03-05
By Jeanene (Washington, DC)
I really like this blender. I use it frequently to make smoothies and to blend soups for a thicker consistency and have also used it to make pesto. I think the real benefits of this appliance are the facility of cleanup and the ability to stick it right into whatever you're cooking without the need to transfer food to another container as you would with a traditional blender or food processor. The mixing container that accompanies it is also a gem; it makes measuring ingredients easy and is a nice size, especially for making shakes or smoothies. Only minor complaints: it's a bit bulky (note the measurements), and the cord is thick and a bit unwieldy. I cannot compare it to other hand blenders because I have never owned another, but I would highly recommend this product if you want a solid tool that will make your cooking life a little easier.

Bought one for my son-in-law for Christmas, and decided I needed one for me..

Heavy, handles fine, does just what I want it to do... Those that wrote

saying they had a hard time with it, or it was clumsy, or hard to assemble, etc.

don't know what they're talking about... It's great for just what it's designed

to do!

A very handy tool - while the cord is somewhat cumbersome the ability to run as long as I need it to without discharging is worth the price. I am unclear if it can support a beater attachment or not.

It's body features durable, die-cast metal construction, and offers a direct-drive transmission with all metal gears. The sturdy lifting mechanism uses a metal arm and steel lever to effortlessly raise an ingredient filled 5 quart bowl. Ten speeds allow for everything from whipping egg whites to slow churning bread dough and the Soft-Start feature keeps power in check to prevent splashing and flour clouds. A unique mixing action spins the beater clockwise while the shift spins counter clockwise; this results in an even blend. As a safety measure, the motor stops in the event of an obstruction or overloading.  "jumping, loss pin, and shaking solution" 2010-03-04
By Sharon V (Loveland, CO USA)
I have not purchased my KitchenAid yet but children love the theirs so I am giving a rating for them, knowing they have not and will not do so. I did find on kitchen aids website a number of videos that explain how to eliminate the jumping and shaking people have described in various reviews of KitchenAid models. Making these adjustments will increase your mixers performance. Since the mixers handle such a variety of materials and densities it's necessary to be able to make these adjustments. they also have a video regarding the loose pin problem, which I was concerned about having heard so many complaints of it. Happy cooking!

Figured it was a hint for a birthday present and snagged this one up. She loved it ! Keep the wife happy = I am happy !

Excellent brand that we know and trust.

Aesthetically pleasing.

Works like a charm !

 "Great Mixer!" 2010-01-30
By shootoo (mi)
Got a great buy on this larger size stand mixer from Amazon. I was not sure if I need this large a size, but for the money it was definitely worth it! I am not a professional baker, but I do make wedding and birthday cakes for family and sometimes I need to make a lot of frosting so I figured why not. You can make so many things with this, and it feels almost like your cheating when your doing your baking! It basically does all the work. The machine is very quiet when your operating it, and it looks nice and sleek and performs wonderfully. The only drawback to this machine is that it is so large you have to move it back and forth on the counter top because it does not fit well underneath when you actually are using it- and to move it, it is very heavy- if you have problems with your hands or arms, this would not be the machine for you. Besides that fact, I would recommend this product highly.

 "Disappointed" 2010-01-07
By J. Fitzgerald (Cleveland, Ohio United States)
I purchased this item to replace an older one that was destroyed in a house fire. I was surprised when the machine started 'jumping' when I made a recipe that called for 6 cups of flour. I never had problems w/ the older one, but this one jumped around so much that I took it back and replaced it w/ the 6 quart model. For $300, I expected better performance. As for the 6 quart model (the Professional 600), the model is sooooo loud that I even called the manufacturer and put the phone next to the machine so they could listen. They said it was 'normal'. Good luck if you want to use it before the rest of your family awakens. It's loud enough to wake the entire household! Again, I am very disappointed, especially since this machine retails for $400. They sure don't make things the way they used to!

"A way to make this frustrating device work." 2010-02-07
By Paul (Idaho USA)
I've had these plates for ten years and only used them a few times. Like most people the experience has been frustrating at best. The noodles usually stick together as soon as I touch them to remove them from the extruder plate. For some reason I tried using them again and in my disgust at the sticking noodles I just put the mixer by the stove and extruded the spaghetti noodles right into the pot of hot water. Each time I cut off a section I gave the water a stir to help the noodles separate. That worked just fine. The noodles that were sticking together so badly before stayed separated when they hit the water. I used semolina flour from Bob's Red Mill and mixed it they way he indicates on the package. I let the dough rest in the fridge about an hour before making the noodles. The cooking time is of course not ever really right because it takes time to extrude all the noodles into the pot but the resulting noodles were fine to me - firm with good flavor. I shall try this technique again.

Other notes: I have a 350 watt lift-bowl mixer. The directions that came with my plates have the machine on setting 10. The machine slows quite a bit when it is extruding the noodles so I know that it will be getting hot. It definitely needs a cool down period.

I had a chance to use the roller version that a friend has. Buy that if you can as it works much better. We worked all day with it making sheets of pasta for a special dish and the mixer was not overworked.

 "Just okay!" 2010-02-05
By Melissa B. (Sacramento, CA)
I wouldn't recommend this product because the consistency of the dough has to be just right. After half the dough is processed the disc gets clogged so you have to remove it and clean it out. The only way you would be able to use it without frustration would be to have two sets. I also have experience with extruding pasta machines and none of them work that great. Not all of the dough comes out evenly and they burn out because they're hard on the motor. If you're an avid homemade pasta maker, buy the roller and cutter.

 "Save your money" 2010-01-24
By France M. Randazzo (Westchester, New York)
This product does not deliver as promised. I followed the directions exactly as indicated in the instruction booklet. The pasta took for forever to extrude and the noodles were curled and sticking together before I even got to cut them off. After 20 minutes I realize that there would be no fresh pasta. My mixer was getting overheated (which never happens). I took out my old fashioned roller/cutter and finished the batch. My recommendation - stick with the traditional pasta makers; Kitchenaid missed on this one.

"Great Tasting Pasta including whole wheat!!" 2009-02-09
By Wireless Worker (Portland, OR USA)
I gave this 5 stars because it does what it is supposed to do.

As with any pasta making method the recipe is always a little by experimentation because the moisture level of the flour varies.

I have used semolina, graham, and white whole wheat flour with great success.

Add just enough liquid to the flour so it sticks together when pressed into a ball. Knead for a few minutes, wrap in plastic and let rest for 30min to 2hr. Roll out on a smooth surface to about 1/4" thick, fold up, and roll out again adding flour until the dough no longer sticks (leaves bits of dough behind) to the counter top.

After the final roll out cut into about 1" squares, sprinkle the squares with some flour to keep them from sticking together.

Add the squares to the pasta maker at the rate of about 1 every 5 seconds.

If the pasta sticks together and does not easily pull apart sprinkle more flour on the pasta squares.

makes interesting shapes...a bit harder to use than the hand crank Italian one as you have to have the dough a bit softer-clean up is a bit harder too..Also--have to rest machine after second batch for an hour.

One of the best features of a stand mixer is that you can add other ingredients while the mixing action is occuring. However, it can be a little tricky trying to get those eggs, or that sugar into the bowl, without getting in the way of a moving beater, or without ingredients sloshing outside the bowl. The answer to these difficulties is a pouring shield. The chute lets you add ingredients from a safe distance while the "collar" prevents splashes from wet ingredients and "puff" from dry ingredients.

It's great that the shield fits all model but it doesn't tighten to the bowl. If you beat something like flour and the dough rises up and hit the shield, the shield would lift up. Basically the shield is quite loose to fit into the bowl.

this is a great tool to have. I have meant to purchase one long ago but just never go around to it.

It works great although the fit is not secure or snug to the bowl itself.

it does however keep the confectioners sugar from flying everywhere and that is most important so I feel it does what it is supposed to do.

thanks so much for your speed and helpful website.

 "ruined my kitchen aid" 2010-01-13

Save your money! I purchased this item in hopes to reduce the mess. I attached the guard (did not fit well), added my ingredients, slightly bumped the guard and it fell into the mixer bowl while it was mixing. Needless to say, it jammed my kitchen aid mixer and off-set the attachment and the bowl; I recommend using a big damp towel and cover the entire unit when you try to mix flour, powder sugar, etc. type of ingredients.

I got this set for my wife for Christmas and she LOVES it. Her favorite color is red and I had been looking for a good set of cookware in red. These pans are HEAVY and cook evenly. The non-stick surface works very well and you can even put them in the oven. The metal handles don't get hot when cooking on the stove top. I can't believe that I got this high quality chef grade set for less than $125.00. My wife is very happy with them and I would recommend them to anyone that wants a really good cookset aand loves the color red.

"Nice and functional, but far from "gourmet"" 2010-01-19
By E. Orgon (Syosset, NY USA)
This is a nice assortment of cookware. The quality is decent, the glass covers are excellent, and the "Drain" pot is handy and works well. The weight and heft of these indicate to me that the pots are not of the usual high density real "gourmet" pots are constructed with. That said, for a starter set, or as a relatively inexpensive replacement set (or gift for a newly married couple), these are a very nice buy at Amazon's discounted pricing (put together with Prime) and it's very economical.

"Get the roller attachments instead" 2010-03-23
By S. Milks (New York, NY)
These dies make really thick pasta; there's no choice for things like lasagne or ravioli strips. The hollow/ziti/macaroni die really doesn't function, because when you cut the pasta off the die, it closes down one end. If you want it to be hollow, you have to use a toothpick to reopen every piece of pasta. Who's going to do that? Something similar happens with the spaghetti/fettucini dies--once cut with a knife, they all stick together. I recommend the roller option. I love that one! It works like a dream; really, it's incredible how fast it works.

 "Disappointment" 2010-03-10

In the past I've used a Marcato hand cranked pasta maker which always did a good job. However, since I have a KitchenAid stand mixer, I decided to purchase their pasta maker attachment for $70.00 and couldn't wait to try it out the first time. What a disappointment. I followed their recipe, but I couldn't separate the noodles when they were extruded. I wound up with a big messy glob of dough that I dumped in the garbage. I will never use it again; instead I will go back to my hand cranked pasta maker which works just fine.

"Not That Difficult To Use" 2010-02-15
By S. Coalter
I purchased this to make venison sausage. I found it fairly simple to use with only a few draw backs. First two people make the job a lot easier, one to manage the meat going in and one to manage the sausage coming out. I would not attempt this alone. Second, as reviewed, the plastic dowel provided to push the meat into the grinder is not ideal. With the casing on the tube, there is a suction issue, and you seem to pull as much meat out as you push in. We solved this by using a wooden straight sided dowel that fit the hole. The rest is really just getting the hang of it which you'll figure out as you go along. We made two different recipes found on [...], and we wood smoked them. The sausage we made is AMAZING & our husbands think we are the best sausage makers in the world! If you already have the Kitchen Aid & grinder, for $10 bucks, and some effort you can make your own sausage at home!

"Value for money but not great" 2010-01-31
By Mr. Adam S. Langman (Australia)
First, for the price this must be the best sausage stuffer available. But, it is not easy to or fast. This is not due to this product as such but the difficulty of feeding the sausage meat into the grinder "mouth". This is especially true if you have a very sticky mixture. It took me longer to stuff the sausages using this product than it did to measure the ingredients and grind it in the first place. I also would have preferred the tubes to be a few inches longer so that they could hold a greater length of casing.

Again, this is almost certainly the cheapest way to go (assuming you have a KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red and KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers) but it is not great at the job. I'll probably buy a purpose built machine in the future.

I made sausage for the first time the other day. It turned out terrific. This product made stuffing the sausage casings very easy. It takes about 15 seconds to stuff a large sausage link, so it moves rather smoothly. The height is tricky however, and takes a minute to adjust to. All you have to do is elevate a bowl beneath the attachment and presto, problem solved.
