If you're looking for relatively good quality items that last forever and retain their color with repeated washing, Kitchen Aid is my preferred affordable choice. The items average only $4 per item with this set, which is as cheap or cheaper than you'd find Kitchen Aid in stores. Plus free shipping! Good deal.

 "Great performer" 2010-02-07
By Peter Dileanis (Sacramento, CA USA)
Bought this blender after reading good reviews in Cooks Illustrated and have not been disappointed. Majority of use has been for making smoothie drinks and pureeing cooked vegetables for sauces and soups.

The machine is sturdy and attractive. The metal housing appears quite durable and the hefty weight of the base makes for good stability. The jar is large holding more than 7 cups although there is better circulation and mixing with around 5 cups or less. At first I was a bit put off by the plastic jar (seemed cheap) but have come to appreciate its light weight. After a few drops I think it's much more durable than glass and I don't cringe when my wife wacks the edge of the jar with metal spoons. 5 speeds with pulse and ice crush buttons- I would be perfectly happy with 3 speeds. Crushes ice uniformly from chunky to snow-cone fine. Purees are smooth with no lumps. The blender was purchased to replace a still working Waring classic which did not crush ice well at all. The blades do not come off the jar for everyday cleaning, but this has not been a problem - I just run it with some soapy water or put it in the dishwasher. I've waited about 7 months to submit a review in order to give it a good test. Everything still runs well and looks good and I still consider this blender a very good buy.

 "Great Blender" 2008-09-20
By D. L. McClain (Chandler, AZ)
I have owned several blenders over the years, including a blender specifically made for smoothies. The motor in this device would smoke when too much ice was used. I returned it immediately because I did not think that was safe. I also previously owned a combination food processor/blender from Hamilton Beach that was pretty efficient. However, it was a huge hassle to switch between the two devices and I stopped using it all together. I have owned this blender for over a year and it is one of the best I have ever used.

The KitchenAid blender is large, quick, and efficient. It makes short work of blending ice, no matter the amount of ingredients placed in the polycarbonate jar. The jar alone is enough to make me want to get another one. It is light, easy to clean, and the handle and contoured pouring lip makes it a breeze to get your ingredients out of it.

I have had no problems with this machine and feel completely comfortable recommending it to other people. The warranty and great customer service offered through KitchenAid covers any and all problems for the first year.

What Mixer Do I Have? This Beater Blade will only work with KitchenAid Stand Mixers. There are 2 types of KitchenAid Stand Mixers and 3 Beater Blades to choose from.If head tilts back, you have a "Tilt-Head" and need the BeaterBlade+ KA-TH. The KA-TH will work with EVERY tilt-head mixer made, no matter the bowl size or power level. If the bowl goes up and down, you have a "Bowl Lift". Now see if the lift handle has a rubber grip or just metal: If the lift handle is only metal, you probably have the 5-quart Bowl Lift and need the BeaterBlade+ KA-5L. If the lift handle has a rubber grip, you have the 6-quart Bowl Lift and need the BeaterBlade+ KA-6L. However, the 5 Plus model has a metal only lift handle but a 6 Quart Bowl. so you'll need the BeaterBlade+ KA-6L.  "What a work horse." 2010-01-21
By Kirstin Mason (Franklin, TN)
I used this product so much over the Christmas holidays that I don't know what I

would have done without it. It is a work horse. Is consistently useful and does

exactly what it is supposed to. It is very heavy so if your lugging it around

that is bothersome. But I take that to a flimsy mixer any day. Easy to clean

up and really no down side that I have yet to find.

 "3rd time is a charm?????" 2009-11-11
By M. Blazavich (Pennsylvania United States)
I purchased this product new from Target in December 2007. By November 2008 the gears from levels 6 through 10 were gone. I did not subject it to heavy use, just your normal cake mixes, icings, mashed potatoes, etc... I engaged the warranty and Kitchen Aid sent me a new one. Just recently we realized AGAIN, the gears from 6 through 10 are gone. I called Kitchen Aid again to use the warranty and told them that this mixer kept losing the gears. After dealing with a rude customer service representative, I called back again. The new representative informed me that I could get the same mixer as a replacement free of charge or I could pay more and upgrade to a different mixer. I thought that was a good idea until I realized that even though they were advertising the new mixer I wanted at $320 I would still have to pay difference between what I originally paid and the MSRP. So instead of a better mixer for approximately $75 which they have advertised on their website, I (because I am trying to be a loyal customer) am being punished and told I have to pay $175 more to get a better made machine. Talk about outstanding customer service. I thought this would be a similar machine and the company would be similar to the service and credibility that my Grandmother experienced when she purchased her mixer 70 years ago. However it is not the case with the new Kitchen Aid. I will definitely think twice before I purchase anything that is Kitchen Aid or Whirlpool!!!!!

I have always wanted a Kitchenaid Mixer, so when I saw the price where I could finally afford it, I snatched it right up! I am so amazed at everything I have been able to do with this mixer. It is quiet, sturdy, and works wonderfully. I am planning on getting some accessories for it soon. I have had this mixer for several months now, and not one single problem. The attachments, I would recommend you hand wash them, mine turned when I washed one in the dishwasher. But overall, it is well worth the money.

 "My most beloved appliance" 2008-04-11
By leemarie (Napa, CA , USA)
Currently all the reviews on Amazon are for the Artisan series mixers, probably because of the extra 25 watts of power over the Ultra series. I got my beloved Empire Red Ultra from my sister, in brand new condition, because she got tired of my constant admiration (actually, covetousness)of it every time I came to visit her. She happens to be a very busy working mom who doesn't cook and bake as much as I do, so she sold it to me at her cost, and I think she now regrets it! At any rate, on to my review...

First off, let me say this baby is HEAVY...at nearly 25 lbs. I don't move it around very much. It stays in its designated space on my counter, and I don't even TRY to store it. I'm disabled, and just don't have the physical strength to tackle that. However, its weight is one of the many advantages of the machine, when mixing heavier items such as bread and cookie doughs. It obviously saves me a lot of hand and arm fatigue; a hand-held mixer is out of the question for me. It has plenty of power, and easily mixes 2 loaves' worth of bread dough with minimal bogging. The only thing that I would improve upon is I would add a way to store the cord neatly; but that is a small thing compared to how much I rely on it to help me cook.

From whipped potatoes to buttercream icing, this mixer does all that I require of it, and probably much, much more...I hope to be able to buy some of the attachments for it soon. At about $50 less than the Artisan series, don't pass it up thinking that the extra 25 watts of power is the only way to go.

 "It's Great!" 2010-01-07
By Juridicus (Los Angeles, CA)
See my comment to "Y. Hughes", above. The jacket works as advertised. The comments all seem to relate to the method of attaching it. It's not flimsy and if one of the tabs become bent for some reason just pull it back into position with a pair of plyers.

Customer Buzz
 "Works OK" 2009-10-20
By Mark Barton (Pasadena, CA United States)
If you need this, you need it. It's good for lamingtons (an Australian classic) where you need a warm bath for the eggs if you're making Genoise cake from scratch and then a hot bath for the icing to keep it runny while you dip. Note that it's specific to 6 quart, bowl-lift mixers. It's very big but it needs to be for a 6 quart bowl.

The weak point is the tabs by which it hooks to the arms of the bowl-lift mechanism so that it goes up and down with the bowl. They're not exactly flimsy but they're very exposed and angular which means it's easy to damage yourself when washing/drying the bowl, and damage the tabs with a drop or heavy knock. In fact the KitchenAid packaging was grossly inadequate - just a cardboard box with no foam - so that the tabs were bent when the bowl arrived and had to be carefully straightened.

"Don't buy this part from this vendor." 2009-05-17
By Y. Hughes
I bought KN2WJ from this vendor's website directly, just because S/H became free after purchaing $99 or more.

KN2WJ I received came with the instruction card for the K5AWJ.

The water jacket was slightly water stained, implying that it was probably used.

Without the right instructions, I could not attach the water jacket to my KP26M stand mixer.

I assumed that they sent the wrong water jacket since the instruction card was for the wrong water jacket.

Later, I found that the water jacket that they sent was actually KN2WJ.

However, I still have great difficulties in attaching KN2WJ to my 6QT stand mixer, due to its uneven tabs.

Attaching water jacket to my stand mixer caused scratches and scraping offs of the paint in the base and the arms of the mixer.

It also scratches the protective coating on the bowl.

I requested the correct manual for KN2WJ to be sent to me; however, the request has not been answered.

The customer service person asked me to return the item with insurance at my cost.

There is no explanation for the wrong instruction card and the water stain on the jacket.

I am not sure if this water jacket itself is designed badly, malfactured poorly, refurbished, returned previously by another consumer, or else.

Whatever it is, when the product you received from this company is not quite right, you are going to lose S/H and restocking fee to return this item. This company sells kitchen appliances quite inexpensively; however, I will not purchase from this company again. If you google the reviews for this company, you'll see that I am not the only one who had the negative experiences with them.

 "Just Fine" 2010-04-05
By FatOrangeTabby (Lansing, MI)
I roasted my 11 lb. Easter ham in this pan, and while it's not as thick or heavy as the more expensive stainless roasters, it hardly mattered. The ham was delicious. I soaked the rack afterwards in hot, soapy water and it came clean without scrubbing. The rack was easy to lift in and out of the pan, even with the ham in it, due to the sturdy handles. The pan itself took a little scrubbing to get clean, but only because my oven isn't level and all the juices on the shallow side kept burning. I had plenty of room on the rack for 11 lbs. of meat, but I would probably limit myself to no more than 16 pounds.

The nicest feature about this roaster is that it's stainless, rack and all. I don't have to worry about scratching any non-stick surfaces with metal utensils. I can clean it with a scrub pad without taking off any coating. I read the complaints about not making gravy in this pan because it doesn't conduct heat evenly, but it doesn't work with ceramic top stoves (says this right on the box) so I would have to transfer the drippings to a saucepan anyway. I actually prefer this method for making gravy and this doesn't bother me.

Overall, I think this roaster is a tremendous deal. I think the non-stick pans and racks are a waste of money because eventually the coating will chip or scratch and you'll end up buying a new one. You don't need nonstick anyway, nothing sticks to this. It's durable, thick enough for my tastes, and less than half the price of Calaphon. Everyone at Easter dinner kept on commenting on how beautiful it is. Unless you have an extremely large family and need to roast more than 14-16 pounds of meat at a time, you can't go wrong with this pan.

"Sweet roaster - sweet price" 2010-02-16
By Vornado Fan (Boston metro)
Roaster does a great job, looks nice too if you're worried about that. Cleans up well. Would be great if it were constructed out of a bit heavier gauged steel but for the price what should one expect. I originally wanted a Calphalon (big fan of their pans) but this was more budget friendly. I'd buy it again. As far as size, we have a 12 lb turkey at Thanksgiving and this was about as big as I'd go in this roaster, so if you routinely have large gathering at the Holidays and roast larger turkeys you might want to consider a larger model.

""A Mate for all Seasons"" 2009-12-20
By Theodore Machock (Brea, CA USA)
We are very pleased with this stainless steel roaster. My wife and I--The "Happy Cooks"--have a rather small oven and have resisted buying a roaster because we could never find a good-quality roaster to fit. However, this roaster worked perfectly in our oven. The handles are designed to take up minimal room, i.e., they don't stick out from the sides of the pan, but are large enough to comfortably grab with potholders. Using our new pan and rack for the first time on Thanksgiving Day, we roasted a 16-pound turkey and then made gravy in the pan on the stovetop. The stainless steel cleans up easily and beautifully.

Note: The material used to make this pan is not nearly as heavy as some others, e.g., All Clad. However, the cost of the KitchenAid is about one quarter of what a similar All Clad would cost and is more than adequate for oven roasting, as well as careful stovetop cooking.

Another bonus: We ordered this pan on Amazon only a week or so before Thanksgiving. With Standard Shipping (and a prayer) it got to us within a few days after ordering. Very fast delivery service and very well packaged. We couldn't be happier with our new KitchenAid Gourmet Roaster and this Amazon transaction.

 "High Hopes Dashed" 2009-12-15

Wanting to make my daughter's family Thanksgiving dinner preparations pleasurable, I ordered this roaster with rack as a gift for her. Unfortunately, too late to do anything about it, it arrived damaged beyond any acceptable level of tolerance. Yet, the shipping box was undamaged. Obviously, someone tried to dupe a consumer, and quality control was lacking. I have had nothing but total trust in the KitchenAid brand, so this was especially disappointing.

The good news is that we were able to recoup all our expenses, including shipping and handling; but, the return shouldn't have been necessary in the first place.

If you already have a kitchen aid mixer this is a great alternative to hand cranking, or cranking out the dough to buy an electric pasta maker. The kitchen aid mixer has plenty of power, and the size of the rollers works perfectly. Having a free hand, and not having to clamp the machine to a table makes it much easier to make great home made pasta. Horsepower makes it work much better than the cheap electric pasta makers or hand crankers with an electric attachment. I think you have to get into electric pasta makers well over $500 to equal this combo.....

Very rarely something is just a pure perfection. These two things are. Very solid, made in Italy, perfectly crafted machines. In the age when everything is made in China, poisons you with lead, and breaks apart on third use, it's a pleasant rarity.

The recipes in the booklet are also right on spot - the very first time I made the best fetuccine all of us ever ate.

Highly recommended.

 "Great experience" 2009-12-02

Ordered Nov 24 and received it Dec 1st by FedEx. The price at around $83 inc delivery was fantastic, versus over $100 elsewhere. Also, there is a manufacturer's cashback of 20% valid to Dec 31 2009 (I hope it works), download the rebate form from: [...]

In my case, it was a decision between the Kitchenaid KRPA unit (consisting of pasta roller, fettuccine cutter, and linguine fine cutter) at $[...] (from Amazon) and this model, KFETPRA. We mainly eat lasagne and fettucini so I decided to do without the linguine cutter.

The instruction manual offers six pasta recipes: cooking pasta, basic egg pasta, semolina egg pasta, light wheat pasta, whole wheat pasta and spinach pasta. So I might defer buying another pasta cooking book.

We had fresh pasta at a New York restaraunt and couldn't believe how amazing the meal tasted. It was so good that it became the compelling reason for wanting this unit. It will be a gift for my wife.

It's a new unit, includes a cleaning brush and manual. And as per the manual, never wash or immerse attachments in water or a dishwasher! Clean off dried dough with the supplied brush.

Next, off to buy a drying rack and enjoy a fresh pasta meal after Christmas.
