We've owned our coffee maker about 3 years. The original carafe broke... we're not really sure why, but the glass cracked. It happens. Our replacement carafe has had no problems.

I bought one on August 9th and it broke in less than 2 weeks. Ok, so I gave the product the benefit of the doubt and assumed it shattered due to my negligence. I bought another one August 31st... and it broke out of no where. Going to buy one more and see how it goes. They say the third time is a charm so we'll see.

Kitchen Aid coffee carafes cannot be found in regular stores. Ordering directly from Kitchen Aid was more expensive and I got the same exact carafe from Amazon. Thank you, it was just what I needed!
