I roasted my 11 lb. Easter ham in this pan, and while it's not as thick or heavy as the more expensive stainless roasters, it hardly mattered. The ham was delicious. I soaked the rack afterwards in hot, soapy water and it came clean without scrubbing. The rack was easy to lift in and out of the pan, even with the ham in it, due to the sturdy handles. The pan itself took a little scrubbing to get clean, but only because my oven isn't level and all the juices on the shallow side kept burning. I had plenty of room on the rack for 11 lbs. of meat, but I would probably limit myself to no more than 16 pounds.

The nicest feature about this roaster is that it's stainless, rack and all. I don't have to worry about scratching any non-stick surfaces with metal utensils. I can clean it with a scrub pad without taking off any coating. I read the complaints about not making gravy in this pan because it doesn't conduct heat evenly, but it doesn't work with ceramic top stoves (says this right on the box) so I would have to transfer the drippings to a saucepan anyway. I actually prefer this method for making gravy and this doesn't bother me.

Overall, I think this roaster is a tremendous deal. I think the non-stick pans and racks are a waste of money because eventually the coating will chip or scratch and you'll end up buying a new one. You don't need nonstick anyway, nothing sticks to this. It's durable, thick enough for my tastes, and less than half the price of Calaphon. Everyone at Easter dinner kept on commenting on how beautiful it is. Unless you have an extremely large family and need to roast more than 14-16 pounds of meat at a time, you can't go wrong with this pan.

 "Not wide enough" 2010-02-17

I loved the original roasting pan I bought 4 years ago. In fact all of my sisters loved it. So for Christmas I bought this for one of my sisters. It is "almost" as good. However overall Product Dimensions: 13 x 17.2 x 6 inches stated did not seem to measure up to my pan. Good thing mine was coated and she got stainless steel finish. Thanks

"Sweet roaster - sweet price" 2010-02-16

Roaster does a great job, looks nice too if you're worried about that. Cleans up well. Would be great if it were constructed out of a bit heavier gauged steel but for the price what should one expect. I originally wanted a Calphalon (big fan of their pans) but this was more budget friendly. I'd buy it again. As far as size, we have a 12 lb turkey at Thanksgiving and this was about as big as I'd go in this roaster, so if you routinely have large gathering at the Holidays and roast larger turkeys you might want to consider a larger model.

We are very pleased with this stainless steel roaster. My wife and I--The "Happy Cooks"--have a rather small oven and have resisted buying a roaster because we could never find a good-quality roaster to fit. However, this roaster worked perfectly in our oven. The handles are designed to take up minimal room, i.e., they don't stick out from the sides of the pan, but are large enough to comfortably grab with potholders. Using our new pan and rack for the first time on Thanksgiving Day, we roasted a 16-pound turkey and then made gravy in the pan on the stovetop. The stainless steel cleans up easily and beautifully.

Note: The material used to make this pan is not nearly as heavy as some others, e.g., All Clad. However, the cost of the KitchenAid is about one quarter of what a similar All Clad would cost and is more than adequate for oven roasting, as well as careful stovetop cooking.

Another bonus: We ordered this pan on Amazon only a week or so before Thanksgiving. With Standard Shipping (and a prayer) it got to us within a few days after ordering. Very fast delivery service and very well packaged. We couldn't be happier with our new KitchenAid Gourmet Roaster and this Amazon transaction.

 "High Hopes Dashed" 2009-12-15

Wanting to make my daughter's family Thanksgiving dinner preparations pleasurable, I ordered this roaster with rack as a gift for her. Unfortunately, too late to do anything about it, it arrived damaged beyond any acceptable level of tolerance. Yet, the shipping box was undamaged. Obviously, someone tried to dupe a consumer, and quality control was lacking. I have had nothing but total trust in the KitchenAid brand, so this was especially disappointing.

The good news is that we were able to recoup all our expenses, including shipping and handling; but, the return shouldn't have been necessary in the first place.
