I won't name the mixer I had before I got this one, but I was extremely unhappy with it. I couldn't even whip potatoes with it.
I've found the Kitchen Aid mixer can mix anything I need it to, including stuff so thick I never would have tried it with my old mixer. I also like the speeds

I had purchased the hand mixer as a Christmas gift. As it turned out, it was defective. Upon contacting Amazon, a replacement was sent immediately (prior to receiving the returned defective mixer) and took care of all shipping costs. The price at Amazon for this particular mixer was fabulous and the level of customer service they offer is rare in this day and age. Would I recommend this mixer? - yes. Would I buy it from Amazon again? - Definitely!!

I have owned KitchenAid products for over 50 years. This is my second hand mixer. It has all the power I would ever need; my only negative comment is that the release button is very tight and being 73 I don't have a lot of strength in my thumbs, so I frequently have to ask some one else to release the blades for me. My previous hand mixer didn't have this issue, so I don't know if it's a new design feature or if the one I got now just has a "sticky" release button. Other than that, it's a great hand mixer. I'd recommend it to anyone.l

Replaced my old KitchenAid hand mixer with this 9-speed pro model and it was definitely worth the price. While my old mixer was still functional, this new one does the heavy mixing and beating jobs in a fraction of the time.

I had a 5speed Cuisinart hand mixer for 5 years. I was very happy with its efficient performance: even at the medium speed I was able to beat eggs and egg whites in a very short time. Unfortunately it started malfunctioning and I had to search for a new hand mixer. While searching I ran across Kitchen Aid hand mixer KHM920 ACS, which had a great reviews on speed and other features in Amazon. So I thought I would give it a try. After testing it on eggs and egg whites I concluded that it does a good job in almost everything except the main thing when baking: beating eggs and egg whites. The highest speed is very slow compared with my old Cuisinart hand mixer. Here are the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Quiet;
- Slightly lighter than my 5speed Cuisinart;
Cons:
- The Highest speeds (8 and 9) are much slower than 5 speed Cuisinart's medium-high speed. Beating eggs to ribbon stage or egg whites to stiff peaks took a very long time compared to Cuisinart.
So I am returning the KA hand mixer and getting Cuisinart. I thought I would get used to it, but it's hard to get used to that low "high" speed after having real high speed performance.
