More is more sometimes, at least in the world of small appliances. KitchenAid has introduced a new member of the stand mixer family, known as the Artisan mixer. It has a tilting head, like the KSM90, but it has a larger 5 qt. capacity bowl. It also gives you more oomph, as in 325 watts of cookie dough busting power. What's not to love? If you've been considering a stand mixer, this may be the perfect "starter model" for you.<

 "fabulous mixer" 2010-02-15

This is all I hoped for in a stand mixer and more. If I could somehow make it open the oven door, it would make and bake cookies without me. It is powerful enough to mix thick doughs and batters without straining, heavy enough to stay put on the counter without needing to hold it, and designed with such close clearances between the beater and bowl that I usually only have to scrape the bowl once while using it. It is easy to operate - setting a desirable speed, elevating & lowering head, removing and changing beaters, removing and replacing bowl. The splatter-guard is a wonderful feature for people like me who tend to get ingredients all over the kitchen when they turn on the mixer. The guard stays in place without vibrating off and the chute is conveniently placed to add ingredients. My only caution for prospective buyers is to consider if you want this to stay on your countertop. I intended to store it in a lower cabinet but because it is so heavy to move, I just keep it out all the time. The stylish black and chrome design is appealing.

"Beware of the new Artisan Kitchen Aids" 2010-02-15
By Sumogooddog (Florida)
I owned a Kitchen aid for over 15 years and my mom sweetly wanted to treat me to a new Artisan Kitchen Aid. I am now returning my second unit. Apparently (now that I read the comments on Consumer Affairs and other sites) they replaced the metal gears with plastic ones and the machines are breaking within one year about the time the warranty runs out. Gratefully the two that I have tried didn't even make it a month. They both started getting louder and louder and one of them vibrated so badly that the pin on the side fell out every time I tried to use it and now the machine I replaced it with is starting to do the same thing. They had to have tested these and know that they have a problem. Very discouraging--I am sure glad I held on to my old machine. Buyer beware and google on-line before you buy one of these.

I love this mixer- I got a great deal on it through Amazon, and have used it a couple of times since I received it and had great success! However, it did arrive with a scratch on it.

I love this machine! It is so easy to use and clean. So much different from my old mixer I've had since the '70's!
